Bullet points are boring, but pictures of raging warehouse fires are intense! See how photos bring this presentation to life. The topic: how the water used to put out structure fires can do more environmental damage than the fire itself. By using dramatic photos, it’s possible to tell a powerful story about how even the best intentions can have disastrous consequences.
Before
This seems to be a listing of fires that resulted in environmental disaster from the runoff of the firefighting water. In fact, the second bullet point relates to a fire that avoided contaminating groundwater because of the lessons learned in fighting the previously listed fire. Although interesting, the second bullet point doesn’t belong on this slide.
Compounding the problem is the fact that even though the presenter is talking about blazing infernos (really dramatic stuff!) he’s chosen to display a bullet-pointed list (not so dramatic).
After
By using pictures of the fires, the chemicals, and the aftermath, I create more drama and intensity for the audience. They’ll remember these images long after the presentation’s over!
Key Points
Instead of showing bullet points try to find memorable photos for your presentations, especially when you are talking about exciting topics that bring up real emotions in people!
